Dullstroom sketchbook, begun in August 2017 and completed  towards the end of 2018, is a collection of experimental works exploring the essence of place, in Dullstroom..

Johann and Miekie opened up their Dullstroom house/ farm to a group of artists, myself and Hennie for a creative retreat on a wonderfully misty, rainy and gold-hued weekend. 

The works and studies in this sketchbook would be the reference source of inspiration for many collections to come, and I am still inspired by that golden light of Dullstroom. 

But it is the energy of creating art and memories with friends that makes my spirit skip with yellow and cadmium hues the most :) 

Places of my ‘art would be empty if not for my treasured folk. And the lands that find me, each hold the shape of those connections. 

Dullstroom: Art Wanderings Sketchbook 2018 is a celebration of those connections and is a collection of musings and 45 sketches of the landscapes of Tonteldoos and Dullstroom we explored together.
